Clarins Instant Light Lip Comfort Oil

Clarins

About a month ago I maxed out my Shopper’s Drug Mart optimum points (best reward program ever). Of course I immediately set about spending every single point. Picture a crazed kid in a candy store and you’ll have some idea of what happened.

Anyway, one of the things I picked up is the Clarins Instant Light Lip Comfort Oil. It’s the bomb dot com. I have the shade 03 Red Berry. It’s moisturizing, non-sticky, non-oily (surprisingly), and provides a light sheen of colour. A handbag staple for sure. Plus it smells delish.

The applicator is nice. It’s large and delivers just the right amount of product. The Clarins website describes it as “a cocoon applicator that increases pleasure upon application.” Now, I’m not sure about increasing pleasure (seriously, who writes this stuff?)… but it certainly does the job.

I’m a sucker for nice packaging and I love the square shape and gold lid. It looks luxe. Luxe kittens.

Tarte Amazonian Clay 12 Hour Blush

If I had to choose a favourite make up product, it would definitely come down to either lipstick or blush. I love me a bold lip, and a healthy flush.

image

For the last six months or so I’ve been addicted to my Tarte Amazonian Clay 12 Hour blushes. I don’t carry blush with me so I find it annoying when it starts to fade halfway through the day. Not a problem with these Tarte blushes. They last for ages, and at the end of the day they look the same as they did when I applied them that morning. Impressive!

Random side note: I just got hit with the worst craving for one of those Tim Horton’s muffins with the fruit filling. Does that ever happen to you guys?

Now, these blushes cost a pretty penny. They’re about $35 a pop, but of course I didn’t pay that for any of mine (I love me some eBay). It’s worth it though. Tarte is a cruelty free brand, and the quality speaks for itself.

I have three shades: Natural Beauty, Fearless, and Magic. Natural Beauty is red toned and when I first got it I was afraid of it. I’d never worn a red blush before. That said, it has quickly become my favourite of the three and it’s the one I wear the most. It’s heavily pigmented so you only need to touch your brush to the powder and you’ve got enough colour for both cheeks. It’s totally matte and it works beautifully with a bold red or fucsia lip. Fearless is a pretty coral pink with gold shimmer. It’s a great daytime shade and gives you that flush that you get from being outside in the cold. Magic is a completely matte peachy pink. I think this one has been discontinued so I’m not going to go into a lot of detail about it.

I haven’t tried anything else from Tarte but the blushes are phenomenal. This is definitely a brand I want to explore further.

Sephora Wish List

I’m on a bit of a wish list kick lately. I’m not sure why that is, but they sure are fun to put together! Now you and I both know that the last thing I need is more make-up, but that doesn’t mean I can’t wish right? Exactly.

So, here is my current Sephora wish list.

1. Soap and Glory

Soap and Glory is really popular with beauty bloggers, and has been for some time. There are a lot more products from this line available in the UK, but we’re starting to see more in Canada. Sephora and Shopper’s Drug Mart are the only places I know of where it’s carried.

I really want to try the Mist You Madly Body Spray, Sugar Crush Body Scrub, and Sugar Crush Body Wash. *swoon*

Mist You Madly Body Spray Sugar Crush Body Scrub Sugar Crush Body Wash2. Josie Maran Coconut Watercolor Cheek Gelee

I used to avoid cream blushes like the plague, but I’m starting to realize that I can wear them. I’ve heard a lot of good things about this one in particular.

3. Ojon Rare Blend Oil Total Hair Therapy

I loved the other Ojon Oil I tried and this one is just so friggin’ pretty!

4. Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush in Tipsy

This is another product that the beauty world is abuzz with and it’s totally worth the hype. I’m trying to get away from pink blush and I think this orange-coral shade is fun.

5. Marc Jacobs Honey

Every time I walk through Sephora (just casually and for no particular reason) I just have to take a squirt of this. I know everyone and their brother has probably bought it but it’s so nice.

So there you have it! What’s on your beauty wish list?

Sweet Kiss

Ok lovelies, today we’re talking lippy. I used to be all about gloss. For years I wore super glossy, sweet lip glosses. Lately though I’ve been  interested in slightly more matte lips. Slightly more matte, as in balms and lipstick. I don’t think I’ll ever be someone who wears a completely matte lip.

I’ve tried a few different lipstick brands, most recently Revlon which I adore, but most often I find myself reaching for my Bourgois Sweet Kiss lipsticks. I have two of them and I love them both.

image

The first is in the shade Rose. Rose is a really nice daytime appropriate pink. It’s an easy one to wear and I like to use it if I’m meeting friends for brunch or lunch or something. It’s got quite a lot of chunky gold-toned glitter in it, so if sparkle isn’t your thing this shade isn’t for you. I don’t find it to be overly shimmery on the lips though.

image

The second is in the shade Fuscia Class, kind of an odd name but I didn’t come up with it. This is my favourite of the two. This is a super bold, super bright dark pink. I love it for nights out. I wear it out to dinner, out for drinks, to shows, and just about anywhere else you’ll find me of an evening. This shade has no shimmer and it lasts for ages. The formula is creamy and glides on smooth; it doesn’t cling to dry patches or flakes. There’s no need to reapply, which is just so fantastic!

So there you have it! You can purchase these babies at your local Shopper’s for about $18. The price is slightly steep but these lipsticks are worth every single penny.

What are some of your favourite shades?

Just a dusting

So I’m not that into sparkle – on my face. I feel like my skin is shiny enough on its own and I certainly don’t want to make that any more evident. Honestly,  NASA could use my face to direct rockets home. But I digress.

I’ve recently become obsessed with the idea of a powder highlighter. Nothing too shiney (like a certain Benefit product that shall remain unnamed Highbeam), and nothing too crazy expensive. I went into Shopper’s a couple weeks ago with intent of using up my beloved Optimum points to replenishing a few necessities. $60 worth of points later I walked out with one blush and one highlighter. I’m a practical girl you understand. *Ahem*.

The highlighter? Smashbox Soft Lights Shimmer. This stuff is pretty dreamy. I’ve worn it every day since I bought it. It’s a super pale pinky shade with just the barest hint of shimmer.

image

The formula is nice. It’s pretty soft and takes to the skin well. If you’re looking for something understated this is a good choice. There is a lot of product, which is always great. The price point is in the $30 range which is spendy but it’ll last for a long time. I give this highlighter two thumbs up.

Are you into the sparkle?

Drugstore Faves

Hello! Did you think I’d died? Well, excellent news: I am alive! I moved to a new apartment about a week ago (LOVE it) and that kept me pretty busy for a while there. I also just needed a bit of a breather – you know? I’ve been feeling pretty stressed lately, and without going into a lot of gory detail, it’s taken a bit of a toll on me.

Anyway, I’m back and badder than ever. Today’s post is a little different but I think some of you will appreciate it. I’m going to talk about some drugstore favourites. A few of these are products that I’ve talked about before, but I’m mentioning them again so you can reference them all together mmmmmmmmkay?

1. Revlon Colour Burst Lip Butters

I’m on my second one of these bad boys and I love it as much as the first. I’m not often a repeat customer because I like to try new things, but I’m a devotee of these lip butters for life. The colours are gorgeous, the formula is moisturizing, light, and non-greasy. The price point is also a little bit of alright. They’re usually priced at under $10.

You can read my full review here.

2. Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder

I could wax lyrical about this stuff for days. I first discovered it over on Katelyn’s blog and am I ever glad I decided to give it a whirl. I find most powders too heavy looking for my taste, but as a greasy gal I kind of need it. This stuff is light, and just a dusting gives me a little extra oil free time (we’re not talking hours here but it certainly helps a lot). I’m on my second pan of this stuff as well!

You can read my full review here.

3. Quo Facial Blotting Tissue

I’ve tried a lot of blotting tissues. A LOT. I’ve tried Biore (kind of weird and plasticky), The Body Shop blotting papers (too powdery), and Sephora brand blotting papers (too spendy) and I always come back to the Quo Facial Blotting Tissues. They are quite thin, which I like. I can do my entire face with two sheets. They’re about $6 which is a pretty fair price. There’s not a whole lot to say about these but they’re cheap, effective, and should be part of every oily girl’s arsenal. The Quo brand is exclusive to Shopper’s Drug Mart.

4. Gosh Velvet Touch Lipstick

As I’ve said before, I love me a bold lip. Nothing finishes off an outfit like a bright pop of colour on your kisser. I’ve tried a lot of different reds but my favourite, by far, is from Gosh. It stays put friends. This is a lippy that’s going to last through an evening of debauchery fun. It goes on a little glossy but leaves your lips with a good stain of colour as it wears away. This is a lipstick that does not have to be reapplied. It’s so great that when I lost my first one, I went out the next day and replaced it.

6. Maybelline Great Lash Mascara

I’m a bit of a mascara junkie, never leave home without it. The Maybelline Great Lash Mascara (it’s the pink and green one) is such a classic. I love its tiny brush, which is also great for using on your itty bitty bottom lashes. It’s not clumpy, doesn’t flake, and stays where you put it. For about $6 this mascara is an absolute steal of a deal.

What are some of your drugstore faves?

The most perfect pink I ever did see

A few months ago I accidentally went into M.A.C.. Such a lovely place; it’s filled with make up, and sunshine, and ponies. The shop assistants are lovely people, and quite frankly, they make the world a better place. Anyway, I digress. I went in with the intention of purchasing the Paint Pot in Let’s Skate. I’d read a few positive reviews and I was keen to try it out. I was all focused and purposeful (ha ha), but I was talked into trying out the shade Vintage Selection by one of the lovely sales girls, and boy am I glad. Let’s Skate is certainly pretty and it would make a great eye-shadow base, but Vintage Selection is, for me, a Holy Grail, perfect pink. It’s a great base as well, but, and this is the kicker, it’s beautiful on it’s own. For the lazy girl-on-the-go this is a perfect one-step, slap it on and yer done, eye-shadow.

MAC Paint Pot

Vintage Selection is such a beautiful colour, kind of a dusty rose shade. It’s got just the right amount of shimmer, and makes my eyes pop perfectly. It’s also subtle enough to wear with a bold cheek and lip.

MAC Paint Pot Vintage Selection

I must confess that I’ve worn this every day since I bought it. I think I’m in love! The formula is very nice. It glides on easily (I use my cream shadow brush to apply it but you could just use a finger), doesn’t clump or look cakey, and is easily buildable.

MAC Paint Pot 2

M.A.C. describes the paint pot as “a highly pigmented eye colour that goes on creamy but dries to an intense, vibrant finish. Long-wearing, colourfast. Creates seamless coverage without weight or caking. Blends smoothly over the lids.” They’ve nailed it. I put the paint pot on around 8:00 am and don’t wash it off until 7:00 or 8:00 at night, and it always looks just like it did when I first applied it. A shadow that wears for 11 or 12 hours? SOLD. Another great thing about this product is that you get tonnes of the stuff.

Vintage Selection

What’s one of your Holy Grail products?

Colourburst Me Berry

Do you guys ever find yourselves stuck in a make-up rut? I sure do. Every day for about a month now I’ve had the same face: BB cream, Revlon Stay Matte Powder, a MAC paint pot on my eyes, a MAC blush on my cheeks (which I should review because I luuuuuurve it), and my trusty Revlon lip butter. Pink, pretty, and complete in about two minutes. If it ain’t broke I suppose…

Revlon Colour Burst Lip Butter

Today I’m going to talk about the Revlon Colourburst Lip Butter. I have the shade Berry Smoothie. It’s a great, go-to deep pink. They’re about $11 at Shopper’s and worth every penny. The colour is semi-opaque, and just really pretty. The formula is nice. It glides on smooth, doesn’t highlight any flakes or cracks, and the texture is rich and creamy. It’s nice and moisturizing.

Revlon Colour Burst Lip Butter 1

The bad news is that mine has almost run out. The good news? Well, now I can buy a new one! Any colour suggestions?

Verdict? Give these a go, you won’t be sorry.

Have you tried out the Revlon Colourburst Lip Butters?

What about it Daddy Cool?

I have had “Daddy Cool” on repeat for the last couple of days. I cannot get it out of my head. I’ve always been like that with music, I listen to the same song over and over and over until I never want to hear it again. I wonder if it’s an OCD thing? Last night I could not sleep because the song was running through my head. It’s not a great lullaby! Does anyone else have this problem or I am the only one who’s crazy obssessive over songs?

Anyway, I’m not here to talk about that! How terribly dull for you lovely readers! What I’m here to talk about is a Clinique Chubby Stick, or more accurately, the Chunky Cherry Clinique Chubby Stick.

Clinique Chubby Stick

When I first purchased this, about two years ago, I was super excited about it. They’d received a lot of hype and I wanted to know what all the excitement was about! To say I was disapointed in the product is a pretty big understatement. I find this product to be incredibly drying. It’s fine for the first half hour or so but then my lips start to feel like they’re puckering, if that makes sense. The feeling makes me want to contort my lips into all kinds of weird shapes… not the greatest look if you’re in public.

Chunky Cherry Chubby Stick

When first applied, the Chubby Stick provides a nice wash of semi-opaque colour; however, after a couple of hours you end up looking like you’re just wearing poorly applied liner. I tested it out again yesterday, I’m determined to like this product for some reason, and it wore away completely in about 2 hours without any eating or drinking. Not great.

I will say that, when first applied, the Chubby Stick does look pretty.

Chunky Cherry

For a product that’s ambitiously priced at $19 I really expect more.  Clinique also tests on animals, which I don’t like. Overall I do not recommend this product. If you’re dying to try something similar, I’ve read great things about the Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains.

Have you had better luck with the Chubby Sticks?

What about it Daddy Cool…

Dig Thriftique

I just had the nicest visit with my little sister, Allie. She was passing through Vancouver on her way home from LA, where she attended a conference and presented a BOOK CHAPTER she’s written. That’s right! My sister will, very soon, be a real, live published author! How exciting is that?

Allie is a thrift store shopper extraordinaire, you wouldn’t believe the stuff this girl can unearth from the depths of a Salvation Army. So, of course, she was all over the plethora of antique and thrifting opportunities on offer in sunny LA.

One of her finds was this gorgeous little compact that she presented to yours truly!

Dig Thriftique

It even has some of the original powder in it! I can just picture a glamorous lady of the 50s perched at her dressing table, wearing a silky peignoir, and powdering her nose! So glam! I’ve got it stashed in my purse at the moment but it’s almost too pretty for that; I feel like this should be displayed on my vanity table… which I really must buy one of these days. It’s on my list along with go through my shoes, come up with a proper filing system for my important tid-bits, and buy some resin display thingies for my make-up brushes. Still, nevermind, I love getting it out oh-so-casually to touch up my lipstick.

Dig Thriftique 2

Allie purchased this little beaut from Dig Thriftique, a store which she informed me is run out of a little travelling van! Check them out here!
