Sweet Kiss

Ok lovelies, today we’re talking lippy. I used to be all about gloss. For years I wore super glossy, sweet lip glosses. Lately though I’ve been  interested in slightly more matte lips. Slightly more matte, as in balms and lipstick. I don’t think I’ll ever be someone who wears a completely matte lip.

I’ve tried a few different lipstick brands, most recently Revlon which I adore, but most often I find myself reaching for my Bourgois Sweet Kiss lipsticks. I have two of them and I love them both.

The first is in the shade Rose. Rose is a really nice daytime appropriate pink. It’s an easy one to wear and I like to use it if I’m meeting friends for brunch or lunch or something. It’s got quite a lot of chunky gold-toned glitter in it, so if sparkle isn’t your thing this shade isn’t for you. I don’t find it to be overly shimmery on the lips though.

The second is in the shade Fuscia Class, kind of an odd name but I didn’t come up with it. This is my favourite of the two. This is a super bold, super bright dark pink. I love it for nights out. I wear it out to dinner, out for drinks, to shows, and just about anywhere else you’ll find me of an evening. This shade has no shimmer and it lasts for ages. The formula is creamy and glides on smooth; it doesn’t cling to dry patches or flakes. There’s no need to reapply, which is just so fantastic!

So there you have it! You can purchase these babies at your local Shopper’s for about $18. The price is slightly steep but these lipsticks are worth every single penny.

Drugstore Faves

Hello! Did you think I’d died? Well, excellent news: I am alive! I moved to a new apartment about a week ago (LOVE it) and that kept me pretty busy for a while there. I also just needed a bit of a breather – you know? I’ve been feeling pretty stressed lately, and without going into a lot of gory detail, it’s taken a bit of a toll on me.

Anyway, I’m back and badder than ever. Today’s post is a little different but I think some of you will appreciate it. I’m going to talk about some drugstore favourites. A few of these are products that I’ve talked about before, but I’m mentioning them again so you can reference them all together mmmmmmmmkay?

1. Revlon Colour Burst Lip Butters

I’m on my second one of these bad boys and I love it as much as the first. I’m not often a repeat customer because I like to try new things, but I’m a devotee of these lip butters for life. The colours are gorgeous, the formula is moisturizing, light, and non-greasy. The price point is also a little bit of alright. They’re usually priced at under $10.

You can read my full review here.

2. Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder

I could wax lyrical about this stuff for days. I first discovered it over on Katelyn’s blog and am I ever glad I decided to give it a whirl. I find most powders too heavy looking for my taste, but as a greasy gal I kind of need it. This stuff is light, and just a dusting gives me a little extra oil free time (we’re not talking hours here but it certainly helps a lot). I’m on my second pan of this stuff as well!

3. Quo Facial Blotting Tissue

I’ve tried a lot of blotting tissues. A LOT. I’ve tried Biore (kind of weird and plasticky), The Body Shop blotting papers (too powdery), and Sephora brand blotting papers (too spendy) and I always come back to the Quo Facial Blotting Tissues. They are quite thin, which I like. I can do my entire face with two sheets. They’re about $6 which is a pretty fair price. There’s not a whole lot to say about these but they’re cheap, effective, and should be part of every oily girl’s arsenal. The Quo brand is exclusive to Shopper’s Drug Mart.

4. Gosh Velvet Touch Lipstick

As I’ve said before, I love me a bold lip. Nothing finishes off an outfit like a bright pop of colour on your kisser. I’ve tried a lot of different reds but my favourite, by far, is from Gosh. It stays put friends. This is a lippy that’s going to last through an evening of debauchery fun. It goes on a little glossy but leaves your lips with a good stain of colour as it wears away. This is a lipstick that does not have to be reapplied. It’s so great that when I lost my first one, I went out the next day and replaced it.

6. Maybelline Great Lash Mascara

I’m a bit of a mascara junkie, never leave home without it. The Maybelline Great Lash Mascara (it’s the pink and green one) is such a classic. I love its tiny brush, which is also great for using on your itty bitty bottom lashes. It’s not clumpy, doesn’t flake, and stays where you put it. For about $6 this mascara is an absolute steal of a deal.

Colourburst Me Berry

Do you guys ever find yourselves stuck in a make-up rut? I sure do. Every day for about a month now I’ve had the same face: BB cream, Revlon Stay Matte Powder, a MAC paint pot on my eyes, a MAC blush on my cheeks (which I should review because I luuuuuurve it), and my trusty Revlon lip butter. Pink, pretty, and complete in about two minutes. If it ain’t broke I suppose…

Revlon Colour Burst Lip Butter

Today I’m going to talk about the Revlon Colourburst Lip Butter. I have the shade Berry Smoothie. It’s a great, go-to deep pink. They’re about $11 at Shopper’s and worth every penny. The colour is semi-opaque, and just really pretty. The formula is nice. It glides on smooth, doesn’t highlight any flakes or cracks, and the texture is rich and creamy. It’s nice and moisturizing.

The bad news is that mine has almost run out. The good news? Well, now I can buy a new one! Any colour suggestions?

Verdict? Give these a go, you won’t be sorry.

Once On the Lips

For years my daily lip routine has consisted of a lipstain and a slick of gloss; however, I have recently become keen on wearing lipstick. It’s part of my bid to be taken seriously as an adult… I’ll let you know how that turns out. I do have a few in my collection but they are all bright red or pink, not very daytime or office friendly.

Off I went to Sephora in the hopes of securing a nice berry shade. I immediately flagged down one of the shop assistants and presented her with the daunting task of helping me find a “berry nude… you know?”

Friends, she knew. After a brief kerfuffle in which she attempted to lead me to the YSL section (she was quickly informed that I don’t have that many pennies) we landed at the Sephora Collection. She waved her hand over the lipsticks and pulled out the perfect shade! It was just like magic!

The winner? Sephora Collection Rouge Shine Lipstick in No. 37 (Sweet Dreams). This lipstick is glossy perfection at the reasonable price point of $15. It’s fairly long-wearing, lasting on me from 8:00 am to noon and through two cups of coffee, a tea, and the cupcake muffin banana I eat for breakfast. I reapply it after lunch and then I’m good for the rest of the afternoon. It’s non-drying, the consistency reminds me of a lip butter. It’s also lightly berry flavoured scented. The major bonus for me is that it does not bleed, which is usually a major problem.

If you’re looking for a nice lipstick at a reasonable price the Sephora Collection is a safe bet. I’ve yet to try anything else from this line but I’m certainly going to come back to it for future purchases!

This colour is only a shade or two darker than my natural lip colour, which makes it easy to wear and match with the rest of my make-up.

Have you tried the Sephora Collection?

OCD… Who? Me?

I love me a bold lip. I don’t have a lot of pigmentation in my lips so I feel that I tend to look super washed-out, and kind of undead, without a slick of gloss or lippy. Lately, I’ve been on the hunt for a nice daytime lipstick (no, I haven’t been shopping!). My current lipsticks are all bold reds or bright pinks, which are a lot of fun but not really suitable for the office… I don’t want to be that girl (you know the one: low-cut blouse and loud make-up, every office has one).

I was in Sephora a while ago and grabbed the Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar in Queen. I chose this colour specifically because it looked like a nice, daytime appropriate shade of coral-red. I also noticed that the product is vegan and cruelty-free; I’m always happy if no bunnies were hurt in the production of my beauty products.

Lip Tar

The fun thing about this product is the application. You paint it on with a little brush. Sephora explains: “Flash a fabulous smile and a stunning splash of color with this lip formula that combines the longevity of a lipstick with the breezy application of a gloss.” The Lip Tar does have impressive staying power. My lips were painted all day long. The problem? After about an hour my lips had turned a shade of shocking, day-glow pink. Not appropriate for work, and not at all the colour I had been hoping for. However, that’s not a huge issue as I now  have another fun pink for nightime. My real issue with this product is the tiny brush. It’s a cute idea but it’s far too small to keep in the basket I keep my other brushes in, I also can’t just throw it in lose with my make-up as it will immediately be lost forever. I ended up securing it to the Lip Tar tube with a hair elastic – not ideal!

Have you had better luck?
