What about it Daddy Cool?

I have had “Daddy Cool” on repeat for the last couple of days. I cannot get it out of my head. I’ve always been like that with music, I listen to the same song over and over and over until I never want to hear it again. I wonder if it’s an OCD thing? Last night I could not sleep because the song was running through my head. It’s not a great lullaby! Does anyone else have this problem or I am the only one who’s crazy obssessive over songs?

Anyway, I’m not here to talk about that! How terribly dull for you lovely readers! What I’m here to talk about is a Clinique Chubby Stick, or more accurately, the Chunky Cherry Clinique Chubby Stick.

Clinique Chubby Stick

When I first purchased this, about two years ago, I was super excited about it. They’d received a lot of hype and I wanted to know what all the excitement was about! To say I was disapointed in the product is a pretty big understatement. I find this product to be incredibly drying. It’s fine for the first half hour or so but then my lips start to feel like they’re puckering, if that makes sense. The feeling makes me want to contort my lips into all kinds of weird shapes… not the greatest look if you’re in public.

When first applied, the Chubby Stick provides a nice wash of semi-opaque colour; however, after a couple of hours you end up looking like you’re just wearing poorly applied liner. I tested it out again yesterday, I’m determined to like this product for some reason, and it wore away completely in about 2 hours without any eating or drinking. Not great.

I will say that, when first applied, the Chubby Stick does look pretty.

Chunky Cherry

For a product that’s ambitiously priced at $19 I really expect more.  Clinique also tests on animals, which I don’t like. Overall I do not recommend this product. If you’re dying to try something similar, I’ve read great things about the Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains.

Have you had better luck with the Chubby Sticks?

Scotch and Soda

When I bought this shirt I wasn’t thinking about animal prints being huge this season, I believe my exact thoughts were, “gimme gimme gimme gimme”, but they are! There are lots of ways to incorporate a fun hit of jungle or safari fab into your wardrobe while still maintaining a work or daytime appropriate look.

Now, I love me a bold top, or bottom, or shoe, or pick-up line drink, but if you’re not feeling that brave think about adding a snakeskin belt, or earrings with an animal print, or a bracelet! One of the great things about this trend is that you’ll be able to find a lot of great pieces at thrift stores, the 80s were pretty animal heavy!

Are you going to be incorporating any animal prints into your look this spring?

I just had the nicest visit with my little sister, Allie. She was passing through Vancouver on her way home from LA, where she attended a conference and presented a BOOK CHAPTER she’s written. That’s right! My sister will, very soon, be a real, live published author! How exciting is that?

Allie is a thrift store shopper extraordinaire, you wouldn’t believe the stuff this girl can unearth from the depths of a Salvation Army. So, of course, she was all over the plethora of antique and thrifting opportunities on offer in sunny LA.

One of her finds was this gorgeous little compact that she presented to yours truly!

Dig Thriftique

It even has some of the original powder in it! I can just picture a glamorous lady of the 50s perched at her dressing table, wearing a silky peignoir, and powdering her nose! So glam! I’ve got it stashed in my purse at the moment but it’s almost too pretty for that; I feel like this should be displayed on my vanity table… which I really must buy one of these days. It’s on my list along with go through my shoes, come up with a proper filing system for my important tid-bits, and buy some resin display thingies for my make-up brushes. Still, nevermind, I love getting it out oh-so-casually to touch up my lipstick.

Allie purchased this little beaut from Dig Thriftique, a store which she informed me is run out of a little travelling van! Check them out here!

Love you long time…

I’m a big fan of a lot of Aveeno products. Their facial lotions don’t really agree with me and their unscented body lotion leaves me feeling greasy, but I adore their body washes and, in particular, one of their lotions. Actually, it’s not lotion it’s a moisturizing oil! Fancy schmancy!

Aveeno

Aveeno Active Naturals Creamy Moisturizing Oil. YUM.  I’ve been using this stuff for 4 or 5 years now and I’m on my umpteenth bottle. There are a couple of things I love about this lotion moisturizing oil. The smell is lovely; light, fresh, and almondy (I’ve described it as smelling like angels, which is totes accurate), and it’s very light and absorbs completely. I do not like using heavy, greasy lotion that feels like it just sits on your skin. I find that this lotion moisturizing oil is also quite soothing for itchy winter skin, though it’s certainly light enough to use in the summer as well. Aveeno Moisturizing Oil

101

For weeks I’d been planning on doing something special for my 100th post. I had all kinds of ideas ranging from a give away (unfortunately for you my pets, I’m always low on pennies…. can’t imagine why), to a tutorial (who am I to give advice though??), to a monthly favourites post. Well, yesterday’s was my 100th post and I celebrated by completely forgetting about it. Typical Poutine behaviour.

Make-up

Without further ado, I give you Poutine and Prada’s 101st post: the bloggers who inspire me! These blogs are where I spend my days (you know, when I’m not working and such), and I’ve been inspired by them all in different ways! If it weren’t for these lovely bloggers there would be no Poutine and Prada (can you imagine?)!

In no particular order:

The Anthology
It must be the voyeur in me but I love The Anthology’s Workspace posts.

Alicia Fashionista
This gal is fabulous, fashionable, and also very close to my size! I find a lot of outfit inspirations here, as well as some great make-up looks, and general fun!

The Skinny Blonde Girl
When I first stumbled across Katelyn’s blog, I didn’t think she could teach me much because she’s only 21. I was mistaken! This is a blogger with a great sense of style and self! Check her out for outfit ideas, and honest reviews.

Prairie Girl in the City
I love this blog because Jennifer is in her 30s, celebrates style at all sizes, and she just seems like a super classy dame!

A Fashion Love Affair
Cara’s style is simple, classic, and exactly what I aspire to!

Tinfoil Tiaras
This is another blog that I felt wouldn’t really speak to me at first, but I quicked realized that Emily is a lovely person with a big heart, and an even bigger closet! If you’re looking for fashion on a dime, this blog is a must see.

The Dauphine
This blog is mostly about make-up and is filled with some absolutely gorgeous photography.

So there you have it! This is by no means an exhaustive list, and I encourage you to visit my daily reads list for more fantastic blogs! There’s something in the blogosphere for everyone so get out there and start reading!

Double Double Oily Trouble

I may have mentioned once or twice that my skin type is oily. I feel that there really aren’t a lot of products that are geared toward us greasy gals; however, I have noticed a few more recently. It’s like how three or four years ago there were next to no hair products for curly locks, and now we’re seeing them everywhere. I have hope friends.

I don’t generally wear powders; I just don’t like that powery make-up look. I like to keep my skin as natural looking as possible; however, when I saw the Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder I had to give it the old college try. It’s an absolute steal at around $6.

Rimmel Stay Matte

Now, at the ripe old age of 3#@! I know better than to dream of matte skin that lasts all day, I’m a realist you understand, but I do love this powder. I’ve used it pretty much every day since purchasing it and I’m very pleased. While I still have to blot, I definitely find that I’m doing it less often, maybe two or three times a day rather than five or six. What I really love about Stay Matte though is its feather light texture. It’s truly translucent and doesn’t settle into fine lines (not that I have any… perish the thought!).

The only teeny, tiny con about this powder is the packaging. The lid does not stay on well at all so if you’re dropping it in your purse make sure to secure it with an elastic first! Also, it doesn’t come with it’s own applicator, this doesn’t bother me though because I never use those things.

Rimmel Stay Matte 2

Final verdict? I will definitely be repurchasing this product. I am a die hard fan. You should run right out and grab one now! Go on, do it.

A Shower in a Bottle

Ermagherd you guys, it’s been too long. I know that’s how I start every post now, but it’s true. I’m just swamped these days! Summer is just around the corner here in Vancity so it’s every spare minute outside for this poutiner (that’s a thing…). Add that to a busy job and weekends filled with shopping eating vigorous exercise (yes, I did just say that), there’s simply not an extra moment.

Anyway, enough foolishness, on to today’s product! Caudalie Beauty Elixir is… is… fabulous. I LOVE it. I feel cheated because I haven’t had access to it before now. Yeah – I dig it.

According to Sephora, this little beaut “smooths the skin, tightens the pores, and provides an instant burst of radiance, as it stimulates microcirculation.” I’m not even completely sure what that means, but I can tell you that this stuff is amazing. You can use it as a toner, but what I like to do is keep it stashed in my purse for those, *ahem*, rare moments when I’m not feeling fresh as a daisy (let’s be honest, by 4:00 pm Friday I’m a hot mess). A spritz or three on the face and your make-up is refreshed, you smell like rosemary and general yumminess, and instead of greasy and tired, you look dewy and fresh! Magic! What I especially love about it is that I can freshen up without piling on a bunch more make-up. Win, win, win friends!
