I’m a curvy girl, and I like it; however, it does present some challenges when dressing. It’s easy to veer into, *ahem*, less than lady-like territory… if you know what I mean, and I’m sure you do because I’m about as subtle as a dump truck. It’s also easy to make myself look much heavier than I actually am by adding bulk to my already generous curves.
Every morning I’m faced with the task of making the most of my hourglass shape, while remaining office appropriate and professional. Enter skirts and dresses. I find it so much easier to throw on a dress than deal with trousers, and tucked-in shirts, and belts. I tend to graviate towards pencil skirts because I’ve always thought that I couldn’t pull off a fuller skirt. Friends, I was wrong. It was simply a matter of finding the right skirt.
This little beauty works for me! It cinches me in at the waist, and it flows over my hips without making me look too bottom heavy. The best thing about it? I got it at Forever 21 for $21! What a steal! Forever 21 can be great for basic pieces like this. You have to be willing to hunt but if you do you can come away with a steal of a deal that looks like it cost a lot more!

Have you ever overcome a challenge with your figure?
Hello my lovely blog friends! It’s simply been ages since I last
bombarded delighted you with my thoughts! I blame work; I would be so much more productive if it weren’t for that pesky job!
Today I’m going to talk about something very special – Benefit Sugarbomb Ultra Plush Lip Gloss. Benefit describes this shade as a “shimmering pinky nude” and they’ve got it exactly right.
I layer this over a lip-stain and it’s perfect for daytime. A little shimmery, subtle, and it has reasonably good staying power. I usually reapply after lunch and I’m good for the rest of the day. The formula is light, and glides on very smoothly. A little goes a long way with this gloss, which makes the hefty $18 price tag a little easier to bear. I nabbed mine on eBay for a fraction of that price if you’re not feeling spendy.
My one beef with this gloss is that towards the end of the day it starts to feel really sticky. It sort of makes the skin around my mouth feel greasy, not the clearest explanation but it’s the only way I can think to describe the feeling.
Verdict? I like this gloss but I’m not prepared to pay the full price for it. I don’t think I’d repurchase.
Have you tried any of the Superplush lip glosses?
Most of the offices I’ve worked at have had some kind of casual Friday policy. I think it’s fun and it helps to boost moral. I enjoy having the chance to show off a bit more of my personality (not too much – I don’t want to scare people!) at work. I tend to push the envelope a bit when it comes to business casual by incorporating lots of bright colour and fun accessories, and I see casual Friday as a chance to push it even more!
I think today’s outfit is a perfect example of my philosophy when it comes to dressing for the office, fun and fashionable, but polished and professional at the same time.
Cardigan: Unknown, Top: The Gap, Jeans: American Eagle Outfitters, Pumps: Nine West, Belt: Abercrombie & Fitch (eBay), Necklace: Gifted, Watch: Belonged to my dad, Ring: Etsy
Fun fact: I’m 5’2 & 1/2″, but in these shoes I’m 5’6 & 1/2″! It’s fun being tall!
Would I get away with this casual Friday look at your office?
I don’t know if you guys are interested in what I’m wearing, but I certainly am! The only reason I don’t do outfit posts is that I don’t have a photographer (I seem to be the only single gal in the blogosphere); however, I’ve decided to do one and see how you like it!
So, without further ado here is what I’m wearing today! Please excuse the poor iPhone photo, it’s the best I could do:)
Top: Guess, Skirt: Kensie, Boots: Aldo, Tights: eBay, Necklace: House of Harlow 1960, Ring: Etsy, Watch: Belonged to my dad
I bought this skirt from Beyond the Rack two or three years ago and it’s one of the best purchases I’ve ever made. I find myself reaching for it at least once a week!
Do you have any favourite wardrobe staples?
For years my daily lip routine has consisted of a lipstain and a slick of gloss; however, I have recently become keen on wearing lipstick. It’s part of my bid to be taken seriously as an adult… I’ll let you know how that turns out. I do have a few in my collection but they are all bright red or pink, not very daytime or office friendly.
Off I went to Sephora in the hopes of securing a nice berry shade. I immediately flagged down one of the shop assistants and presented her with the daunting task of helping me find a “berry nude… you know?”
Friends, she knew. After a brief kerfuffle in which she attempted to lead me to the YSL section (she was quickly informed that I don’t have that many pennies) we landed at the Sephora Collection. She waved her hand over the lipsticks and pulled out the perfect shade! It was just like magic!
The winner? Sephora Collection Rouge Shine Lipstick in No. 37 (Sweet Dreams). This lipstick is glossy perfection at the reasonable price point of $15. It’s fairly long-wearing, lasting on me from 8:00 am to noon and through two cups of coffee, a tea, and the
cupcake muffin banana I eat for breakfast. I reapply it after lunch and then I’m good for the rest of the afternoon. It’s non-drying, the consistency reminds me of a lip butter. It’s also lightly berry flavoured scented. The major bonus for me is that it does not bleed, which is usually a major problem.
If you’re looking for a nice lipstick at a reasonable price the Sephora Collection is a safe bet. I’ve yet to try anything else from this line but I’m certainly going to come back to it for future purchases!
This colour is only a shade or two darker than my natural lip colour, which makes it easy to wear and match with the rest of my make-up.
Have you tried the Sephora Collection?
This looks like an ordinary workday outfit; however, friends, I assure you it is not! What’s so special you ask? Well, my legs are super warm and cozy because I have on fleece lined tights! Ta da!
I’m not a morning person by any stretch of the imagination. Any time before 10:00 am seems, frankly, very rude! In spite of my own proclivities I know that we North Amercians live in a 9-5 world and so I do my best to conform. Bleh. I wear a dress or skirt to work 4 out of the 5 days a week because at 7:30 am my sleep addled brain is simply unable to comprehend any outfit that requires picking out more than one piece. The problem? During the “cold” Vancouver winters my gams tend to get a little chilly in your typical tights. Enter these Legale Plush Lined tights! With their modest, fleecy lining my stems are warm and toasty and my mornings seem a teensy bit less evil filled.
I snagged mine on eBay for about $10, but I understand that Beauty Mark here in Vancouver carries fleece lined tights for about $40.
Have you been lucky enough to score a pair?
